Meet Muhammad, Cybersecurity Team Lead
Our people are at the core of our business. We are featuring the amazing individuals who make EGlobalTech an exciting and supportive place to work.
Cybersecurity is one of the most relevant industries in the 21st century. The severity of cyber risk has increased tremendously over the past two decades. Attacks take an array of forms such as ransomware, spyware, trojans and social engineering, all of which threaten the IT systems and infrastructures that keep our country running.
The challenge, however, is many people do not understand what cybersecurity is, nor do they understand why it is so important to the way we work and live. This is where Cybersecurity Team Lead, Muhammad Riaz, has a leading role.
Because the systems we rely on are so complex, there are always weaknesses or vulnerabilities to be remediated before attackers can exploit them. According to Muhammad: “There are various types of cybersecurity weaknesses, but people can pose the biggest risk to any system. We will never separate people from technology, so one thing I would want to fix on a massive scale is training. I would like to see a workforce that understands the relationship between technology and cybersecurity, with the ability to recognize threats and adjust their behaviors to manage these threats.”
Prior to EGT, Muhammad’s worked as a senior customer engineer and senior IT lead, helping end users with IT needs and ensuring they had the right security controls in place. During this time, Muhammad earned his B.S. in Computer Networking from the University of Maryland, and he is currently pursuing his M.S. in Cybersecurity Technology from the University of Maryland.
Muhammad joined EGlobalTech in May 2019 as a security analyst working with our federal partners at DHS. With a sharp eye for detail, and knack for simplifying complex ideas, he builds streamlined solutions to meet his client’s goals. Muhammad takes a human-centered approach and tries to understand the unique perspective and experience of his customers when having conversations about cybersecurity. For many cybersecurity professionals, this can be challenging, but Muhammad values following up to make sure people understand what they are doing and why they are doing it.
EGlobalTech strives to promote and foster professional development and Muhammad has consistently shown upward growth. Muhammad moved into his current role as a cybersecurity lead on one of the Federal contracts this year. While for many, moving into a new role while working remotely may have been daunting, for Muhammad, it was a challenge he was excited to take on.
“They have given me the opportunity to grow and have given me tasks with high visibility which has taught me new aspects of the job” said Muhammad. Since the quarantine, the team has “had to implement new processes to accommodate for the remote-working situation, and while many process updates may seem small, they can be quite challenging when you are working with executives.”
As November marks National Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month (NCISRM), Muhammad will continue to provide thought leadership and strategic solutions to the challenges our Federal partners face.
In his free time, Muhammad enjoys reading cybersecurity related articles, researching the new technologies emerging within cybersecurity, and experimenting to try to find the perfect cheeseburger recipe. He also enjoys spending time with his family and dedicating time to his religion, Islam.
