The US Military Veterans Center was created by Real Life (RL) Vets for Vets, active duty & family members. Veterans of the U.S. Military can connect and communicate with other Vets in SL. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard.

In 2008, Second Life was honored at the 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards for advancing the development of online sites with user-generated content.
